Ahmed Rashid: Pakistan on the Brink: The future of America, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Also the book has dated quite rapidly; the situation with Iran has evolved significantly, for instance. The opening chapter recounts exactly the tale of bin Laden's demise that Seymour Hersh has recently called into question. I get the impression that there's more value in his earlier books on the rise of the Taliban.
