Likely only the second time around with David Lynch's masterwork. Prompted by Christos Tsiolkas's 25th anniversary take, and also for the Kenneth Anger-ish double/triple/... exposures. Lynch mostly gave us time to appreciate his images.
Wikipedia says this is an assembly (and extension) of a television pilot. I do wish they'd made it at Twin Peaks length as there are perhaps too many teasing, promising fragments: the two blokes at the diner, the hitman at the office, Melissa George, Robert Forster. (Some of this put me in mind of Pulp Fiction (1994).) The main thread, involving Naomi Watts and Laura Harring, is an identity masala that showcased the former's range. The Justin Theroux line is far more banal, mostly ignored by reviewers, and really, who even dreams of keeping tins of fluorescent pink paint in their house? Lynch filled the minor roles with great actors. It is never less than engrossing.
